Separated Capsules

Most capsule-filling lines take pre-closed capsules and open them in the machine. If you fill by hand, on a semi-automatic filler or in a capsule board, that step is yours — and separated capsules save it. Caps and bodies arrive in separate bags within each carton, ready to fill.

The capsule itself is unchanged: the same bovine gelatine, vegetable HPMC or natural pullulan shell as our pre-closed range, in the same sizes and to the same quality standards. Only the packing format differs — and separated capsules carry their own item number and carton units.

When to choose separated capsules

• Manual filling — capsule boards and hand-filling kits, where opening every capsule first doubles the work.
• Semi-automatic fillers — machines that need pre-separated halves rather than opening a closed capsule themselves.
• Trials and R&D — a few thousand capsules for a stability study, a pilot batch or a customer sample run.
• Small production runs — short series where setting up a full automatic line is not worth it.

If your line opens capsules itself, pre-closed is the right format — it is our standard and always the default. Separated capsules are a variant we supply to order, so lead time depends on type and size; ask us before you plan a production date.

Types, sizes and colours

Separated capsules are available in bovine gelatine, vegetable HPMC and natural pullulan — not in acid-resistant HPMC. Each type follows the size range of its pre-closed counterpart, so the size table on the capsules overview applies. Transparent is the standard shell; palette colours and custom colour matching are made to order.

Quality and documentation

A separated capsule is the same product as the pre-closed one, so the same documentation applies: batch certificates and — for bovine gelatine — the Certificate of Suitability confirming BSE/TSE safety. Certifications follow the capsule type; see the product page for the type you choose.

Ordering separated capsules

Separated capsules are packed 50.000–300.000 per carton depending on type and size, minimum one carton, shipped from our European warehouses. First-time orders take slightly longer — we first set up your customer account. Tell us type, size, quantity and your filling method, and we come back with price and lead time.
